Botulinum Toxin Type A is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium A. Botulinum Toxin injections are used in aesthetics to relax the muscles in the face in order to reduce their movement. This in turnrs limits the movement of the skin that sits on top of the muscle and therefore helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles when certain facial expressions are made e.g. smiling, frowning and raising the eyebrows.

Prior to your treatment, you will need to attend a free consultation so that your practitioner can assess your suitability. During this consultation, you will be asked to complete a detailed medical questionnaire and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. This process usually takes approximately 15 minutes. The treatment itself, should you decide to go ahead at it, lasts less than 10 minutes including preparing the skin and assessing movement of your facial muscles.

No. Wrinkle smoothing injections always take up to 14 days to kick in. Most of our clients start to notice a change at around day 5 or 6 post -treatment, however we expect the maximum effects to be visible at the 14 day mark.

Botulinum Toxin treatments aim to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is unlikely that all wrinkles, in particular deep set wrinkles, will disappear completely. We tend to notice that clients under the age of 45 will see the best results.

For all of our clients, in particular our new clients, we offer a free review appointment between 2-4 weeks post-treatment. This appointment is essential in ensuring that not only you are happy with your treatment, but to make certain that we are happy with the results we have achieved. If we feel that we could tackle a couple of extra wrinkles, then more wrinkle smoothing treatment will be administered at no extra cost. It is important to remember that wrinkles smoothing injections are a prescription medication, and any additional doses will only be administered if needed rather than as standard.

The results last an average of 3-4 months. Peak results are seen approximately 7 weeks post treatment. After this, you will notice that the treated muscles slowly begin to regain movement until full movement is usually regained by 4 months.

Common side effects are usually temporary and are most often those seen at the injection sites, including bleeding, redness, lumps/bumps and bruising.

There is very minimal pain involved with wrinkle smoothing injections at Highfield Aesthetics. It really does feel like a sharp scratch. We use the finest of needles to ensure our treatments are as pain free as possible.

Only if that’s the look you’re going for! The vast majority of our clients prefer a very natural result from their wrinkle smoothing treatment, however others prefer to have very little movement.
